Working Bees Completed National Park Thanks to Marie, Lisa and Mike, Tom and Natalie..and thank you Raymond for the use of the floor polisher. PS. As you can see in the attached photo, Tom came prepared with his “specialised” tool case!!! Bernie Trials, Tribulations, Tears and Smiles - Top Club Working Bee 2012 Last weekend 12 of us set off up to the top club for the planned working bee, the weather was a little questionable, but work had to be done and weather was against us. Upon arrival at the lodge we were fronted with the horror that someone had not locked the lounge doors properly and they had been blown off in the bad weather, hut wet and no doors, lots of wind and rain coming on Saturday night and a big working bee list already!!!!!!!! These are the highlights of the work done this weekend, although there was lots of other jobs completed as well. After a few choice words by us all over the doors, Jim Crooks set out to secure the hut with one of the lounge doors that escaped damage and some plywood. The other door has broken and had to be carried down to see if it can be repaired unfortunately the existing frame that the doors sat in was damaged beyond repair and will require replacing. Keith Frost and Paddy were tasked with the chimney water leak and spent most of the day replacing the sealing bellows and patching up a rusted roof. Ross Boswell & Liz Fotherby targeted the roof tex screws and sealed up as many loose nails or screws that could be found. Chris Fotherby and David Meek set out to design, create and build a new heating trace for the hut water feed pipe. Simple in thought one thinks, but in practice was a good two days work to complete the job. All credit to these guys for their patience in getting the feed wire through a tube with a tiny diameter over 17 metres long. All I can say is that there were up to 10 helpers all tapping the tube playing a tune , just to get a stubborn wire through. Baffled, ask in the season. The end result being that we now have a heating trace which will help defrost the water supply to the club on those very cold days. Chris Hatton Carr was able to come up and spare some time after his guiding job, and secured or replaced the missing shingles. Heather Frost cooked up the feasts to keep the crew going, great scones and the spaghetti was definitely what was required on Saturday night. Catherine Crooks and Karina Meek took on the tasks of hut and bedding cleaning and food stock takes. Liz Fotherby built the new control unit for the heating trace. Ross, Kevin and Jim removed all the bunk room radiator fittings and resealed them, the pressure was on here to get this done by night fall on Saturday night so as we could get the heating on to try and heat the rooms up a little. Paddy reclamped the gutters that had been pulled off by the snow. Kevin, Ross and Paddy rewired the bunk room and lounge lights with eco fluro's I would like to thank the team that came up with me this weekend and made all the work happen, See you all in the skiing season.
